2 · The sink
You get home after a long day. You are tired and hungry, and you just want to make something simple for dinner.
The kitchen sink is full. A pan from last night with something stuck to the bottom. Two mugs. A plate with dried sauce. None of them are yours.
You need the sink. The only way to use it is to wash someone else’s dishes first.
Stay with that for a moment. Notice what you feel: irritation, tiredness, a sense of fairness, or something else entirely.

Picture the same sink, the same pan, the same two mugs.
This time, you know the person who left them worked a double shift and fell asleep on the couch before they could clean up. Or imagine they belong to someone you care about—a partner, a parent, a close friend.
Washing them could be a small, quiet favour. Nothing about the dishes has changed. Only the story around them has.
